FISHING IN REVERSE

BLOG #4 November : Ruminations | Reflections | Anecdotes | Contemplations

On the first Tuesday of a spring so bountiful everyone was deliriously happy Lefty Bender awoke to the realisation he had a hole in his head the size of a dish. When Lefty held a shaving mirror up to get a better look all he could see was void. The sight so terrified him he decided never to look there again. Over time though curiosity overcame his terror.

So it came to pass on the last Tuesday of that very same spring Lefty Bender headed for the laundry. There at the back of last year's washing he found his father Brian "All Night" Bender's Tsunami Airwave Elite Surf Spin Fishing Rod. Next, Lefty rummaged through a collection of bottles and tins at the back of the fridge until he found what he was looking for: a jar of nightcrawlers. Jar and rod were carefully placed on the Gaucho Leather Powered Recliner his mother May Florence Bender left him when she was moved to the All Care Nursing Home. Then in one stupendous burst of mania Lefty dragged the lot into his bedroom and plonked himself dead set square in front of the antique wardrobe mirror." Coming to get ya, ready or not" he shouted at the top of his considerable lungs.

A fat night crawler worm slid around the hole in his head before Lefty calmed down long enough to let it fall. The fat night crawler fell and fell and fell and would have kept falling had it not been attached to the hook, attached to the line , attached to Lightbulb's arms which were almost jerked out of their sockets by the speed and force of the drop.

"Must be a long way down" The precise moment Lefty shouted out these prophetic words he was reeled into himself at tremendous speed. Without so much as a backward glance the fisherman had become the fish.
